Sustainable solar system
The Karnataka Solar project harnesses India's sunshine hours and converts them into electricity that feeds into the Indian grid. The project contributes to fossil-free solar energy and provides socio-economic benefits to the region's residents.
2°C warming by 2030
Karnataka is India's eighth largest state by population and has rich wildlife - it is home to 25% of India's elephants and 10% of India's tigers. The state depends on the annual monsoon rains between June and September, when rainfall ranges between 50 and 350 cm.
Karnataka is expected to experience warming of about 2.0°C by 2030, and the monsoon is expected to provide significantly less rainfall, which will have a major impact on both people and animals. Agriculture in Karnataka is rain-dependent, making it very vulnerable to changes in the monsoon. The project prevents the emission of about 425,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually by replacing coal power.
